Rooted in Isla Mujeres

A life shaped by culture, connection, and the sea.

Story

A Journey That Began in Childhood

There’s a reason Isla Mujeres draws people back again and again. It’s more than turquoise waters or glowing sunsets — it’s a quiet presence that lingers long after you leave, felt in the rhythm of the waves and the warmth of the islanders.

My connection with this island began when I first arrived as a child. Since then, Isla Mujeres has remained a place of reflection, inspiration, and belonging. Over the years, I have explored its streets, sailed its waters, and listened to the voices of those who call it home, discovering stories of history, culture, and spirit that continue to shape the island.

Through this journal, I share these stories — moments that reveal the beauty, magic, and memory that make Isla Mujeres so unforgettable.

The Spirit of Isla Mujeres

Long before modern travelers arrived, Isla Mujeres was a sacred sanctuary dedicated to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of fertility, abundance, and the moon. For generations, people came to this island to pray, offer gratitude, and seek guidance.

The island has always been a place where the sacred and everyday life meet — where the rhythm of the sea shapes the lives of its people and stories are passed from one generation to the next.

Through this journal, I share these stories — the history, culture, and people that make Isla Mujeres so extraordinary.

Preserving the
Island’s Stories

Many of the historical stories shared in this journal are told in collaboration with Isla Mujeres’ official historian, Don Fidel Villanueva Madrid, along with the memories of islanders who have lived and shaped its history. Together, these voices help preserve the cultural memory of Isla Mujeres for future generations.g elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

A Bridge Between Two Worlds

Told in my voice — that of a pilgrim who first arrived on these shores at six years old, who has lived between two worlds ever since, and now wishes to become a bridge between them.

As one of my spiritual teachers in Mexico once told me, adapting a line from an old song:

No soy de aquí, ni soy de allá, solo sé que soy… y ya.

I have carried that truth with me ever since — that belonging is not a place, but a presence. And here, on this island of wind and memory, I have finally found my way home.
